Can’t I just do all of this myself?
Sort of. Smartphone and digital technology now means that we can all get evermore creative with relatively little experience. Apps that allow you to record, and edit are now mainstream. Everyone has a mate who can work wonders with photos, film and audio – just press the button and away you go. Why employ a prominent production company to take care of your podcast when that new kid in the IT department is a whizz on the tech front? Get him to do it. What could go wrong? The short answer is plenty.
Self made podcasts (or bedroom podcasting, as they are colloquially referred to) are, of course, possible. Yes, you can cobble together some friends and make something happen but will it sound any good? Will all of the required elements be professionally in place? Will the quality be there? Probably not. The process of producing and launching a podcast needs some TLC and if you want to do this right it’s clearly going to be beneficial – crucial, even – for someone to show you the way.
